Carl Morgan is an historic buildings consultant, he established his business in 2011.

Carl has over 20 years conservation experience and recognition through the RICS conservation accredited scheme as a Certified Historic Building Professional. Carl set up his business to assist and advise owners of modern, period, listed and historic buildings of appropriate methods of building repair and to develop and adopt a sympathetic approach to alterations, extensions and conservation.

We aim to provide our clients with a tailored service, providing and individual and personal experience, combined with expert advice and an extensive range of professional services.

We can offer individual survey reports right through to full CAD drawings and a complete building project management package.

Experience

During his career, Carl has developed a wide range of knowledge in many different fields.

His early experience was on the contracting side of the building industry, working on a variety of more common projects such as housing development, commercial, new build as well as design and build projects and heritage conservation projects. This provided a sound grounding in both modern and traditional building techniques as well as in the planning and delivery of construction projects.

He gained additional conservation experience when working as Contracts Manager and Estimator in a local Conservation firm. His interests and enthusiasm for conservation work fuelled his knowledge and he worked on numerous ecclesiastical projects including repair and restoration. He also has worked on the adaptive reuse of buildings, conservation work on castles and mansions, cottages, monuments and sculptures.

Over the last 16 years, Carl's career has been more focused on the professional and surveying aspect of the industry. His previous experience within contracting proving invaluable and providing him with an unique insight into all aspects of the industry. Before establishing his own business Carl was employed the National Trust for 9 years. As Regional Building Manger for Wales he was responsible for all Conservation Building Surveying and new Project work across the whole of Wales with a team of 11 in house staff, employing external consultants where required.

This work was varied and included project work on Significant Mansions and their estates (Let Cottages and farms), Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Listed Buildings, follies, harbours, lime kilns, quarries, coastguard lookouts, tin plate works and more. The type of work carried out included, adaptive reuse and conversion of buildings, conservation and restoration, re-servicing, consolidation, improvement, new builds such as visitor facilities, extensions, bridges and so on.

Carl now has a portfolio of clients and projects which is varied and includes; local authorities, private and public organisations, contractors and private clients alike.

BSc Building Technology and Management

MSc Conservation of the Historic Environment

CIOB - Full membership to the Chartered Institute Of Building

LABC - Partnered with Carmarthenshire County Council Building Control

RICS - Certified Historic Building Professional - Conservation Accreditation

Grant funders such as the HLF, English Heritage and Cadw will often require conservation accreditation of the lead professional on of their grant funded projects.
